Lawn mower injuries are on the rise, according to a report released by the Wisconsin Division of Trade and Consumer Protection.
In 2009 247,000 people in the United States suffered lawn mower-related injuries, a seven percent increase from 2008. Brock Bergey, a spokesman for the Wisconsin Division of Trade and Consumer Protection, said most of the injuries are a result of carelessness, but defective products can also cause injury. "We see deep cuts, loss of fingers, toes, eye injuries," Bergey said. "If people think a little bit before they go out and mow, these can be prevented.
In Wisconsin 109 people were treated for lawn mower-related injuries last year. The United States Department of Health Services said such injuries are not as common in the state as they are in the rest of the country.
