Light pole falls, injuring student

Posted on Wednesday, May 5th, 2010 at 6:26 am

A female student was injured when a light pole on the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee campus fell shortly after noon, pinning her beneath it. Reportedly, the woman was sitting at a table in an outdoors plaza when the pole fell. She was taken to the hospital with injuries, authorities said. She was able to move her arms and legs, a University spokesperson said.

Some news sources report that gusty winds blew the pole down. Some witnesses say that it was not entirely caused by the wind, because it fell in a different direction than the wind was blowing. They say, rather, that the base of the pole had rusted through.
