Wausau Man Injured in Marathon Co. Crash

Posted on Thursday, July 22nd, 2010 at 4:28 am

A Wausau man is in the hospital following an early morning car accident in Marathon County Thursday.

According to officials with the Marathon County Sheriff's Department, 25 year-old Derrick J. Baptist, of Wausau, was traveling southbound shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Highway X Thursday when the accident occurred. Sheriff's Lieutenant Frank Hanousek said Baptist failed to negotiate a curve at South Road in the town of Knowlton, near Kronenwetter. The motorcycle and driver went through a fence and struck a tree before coming to rest.

Baptist was talking to officers and paramedics at the scene, but he suffered major injuries, Hanousek said. He was transported by medical helicopter to University of Wisconsin hospital in Madison.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
