Two injured in Athens collision

Posted on Friday, August 26th, 2011 at 2:48 am

A motorcycle and a car collided in Athens on Sunday evening, injuring two people.

According to Marathon County Sheriff's Lt. Kevin Gray, 44-year-old Lisa Fawley was driving a motorcycle through the intersection of Highway 97 and Highway F when she failed to yield to a car driven by 79-year-old Mary Theilig. As Theilig was turning onto Highway 97 from Highway F, the motorcyclist cut in front of her, causing the two vehicles to collide.

Fawley suffered a severe injury to her leg and was taken to Aspirus Wausau Hospital by air. When concern arose that the leg may need to be amputed, she was then transported to University of Wisconsin Hospital for treatment. She is now in fair condition. Theileg was also taken to Aspirus Wausau Hospital but has since been released.

As stated by Gray, Fawley has been charged with failing to yield the right of way and operating while intoxicated.
