Storms sweep through Wisconsin overnight

Posted on Thursday, May 3rd, 2012 at 2:24 pm

Numerous large storms hit different parts of Wisconsin overnight, and this morning repercussions of the storms are still noticeably visible. These storms caused flooding, power lines to break, and schools to delay opening in both eastern and western Wisconsin counties.

In Eastern Wisconsin, the National Weather Service had issued a flash flood warning that ran until 9 a.m. this morning. Schools in several eastern counties had to delay opening their doors in order to recalculate routes school buses could utilize in order to safely avoid the damage and flooding.

Hail and flooding were frequently reported in several counties, and U.S. 41 was shut down between Winnebago County and Fond du Lac County due to the high volume of water on both the southbound and northbound sides.

A Fall River man is recovering in a hospital after he was hit in the head by a piece of concrete while driving in Madison on Tuesday.

The piece of concrete was the size of a softball, and was believed to have been knocked up by another vehicle on the same roadway. The man was driving on U.S. Highway 151 in Madison when the concrete ball broke through his windshield, and struck him in the head.

The 50-year-old suffered injuries, and was taken to a local hospital to be treated. He is currently listed in fair condition. The Department of Transportation has fixed the part in the road where the concrete was kicked up, and the Dane County sheriff’s office announced that this was not an intentional act.

Wiring problem causes BMW to recall 1.3 million vehicles

Posted on Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012 at 3:15 pm

In certain BMW models, connector cables attached to a trunk battery could have potentially been wired wrong. This mechanical error has caused BMW to announce an international recall of the defective vehicles.

In the United States, 367,000 vehicles are being recalled, with 39,000 2010 5 Series sedans making up a large part. If the battery connectors become loose in the vehicle, they could create friction and overheat. In one reported case in the United States, a fire started due to this problem.

No injuries have currently been reported, but BMW has advised owners of these vehicles to park their cars outside until they are able to have the problem fixed. All BMW dealers will be equipped to handle these repairs starting at the beginning of April, and no charge will be issued to owners.
